Responding to Industry Changes, SDHI Strengthens Investment and Development in Southeast Asia

The mining industry is increasingly adapting to efforts to mitigate climate change by adopting lower-emission and more energy-efficient equipment. This trend is also encouraging heavy equipment manufacturers to develop more efficient technologies, as demonstrated by Shandong Heavy Industry Group (SDHI).

Zhang Gengsheng, Vice President of Shandong Heavy Industry Group, said the global mining industry is moving toward the use of lower-carbon, smarter, more efficient, safer, and more energy-efficient technologies.

He said these changes have also encouraged SDHI to strengthen its investment and business development in Southeast Asia, including through the localization of research and development, manufacturing, services, and other supporting areas.

“Going forward, Shandong Heavy Industry Group will continue to strengthen its strategy and investment in resources in Southeast Asia while accelerating deeper localization,” Zhang said in an official statement, as quoted on Saturday, September 12, 2026.

In addition to bringing its technologies to the region, SDHI is expanding cooperation with mining companies in Indonesia. The collaboration covers product procurement, technical services, and operational support tailored to local requirements.

SDHI said it has established marketing, service, and spare-parts support networks in various parts of Indonesia after developing its business in Southeast Asia for several years.

Going forward, the company plans to expand the localization of its business in Indonesia and across Southeast Asia. Its strategy includes developing regional business networks, local services, and adapting technologies to the needs of the local mining industry.

The changing needs of the industry are also reflected in the technologies brought to Indonesia by five SDHI brands.

WEICHAI POWER, for example, has introduced fuel-based power systems, power batteries, as well as energy storage and charging technologies. These solutions are intended to support energy requirements at mining sites and facilitate the electrification of equipment.

SINOTRUK offers mining transportation equipment with various drivetrain options to meet material-hauling requirements.

Meanwhile, SHACMAN has showcased heavy-duty mining trucks designed for challenging operating conditions, including areas with numerous uphill and downhill sections.

SHANTUI, meanwhile, provides equipment for various stages of mining operations, from overburden removal, excavation, loading, and hauling to compaction. The equipment is said to have been adapted to the characteristics of biofuel use in Indonesia as well as high-temperature and dusty working conditions.

LOVOL has also introduced mining construction solutions that combine energy efficiency, heavy-load operations, and adaptation to local conditions.
