Member of Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) from the Golkar Party, Beniyanto Tamoreka, supports Energy and Mineral Resources Minister (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia’s policy to strengthen the allocation of energy subsidies in the 2027 Draft State Budget (RAPBN). The policy is considered aligned with President Prabowo Subianto’s vision of maintaining people’s purchasing power, strengthening energy security, and promoting equitable development.
“Energy subsidies are an important state instrument to protect the public and sustain economic activity. We support Minister Bahlil’s efforts, but implementation must be truly well-targeted, transparent, and reach those who need it most,” Beniyanto said in a written statement, as quoted on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.
During a working meeting with Commission XII of the DPR RI, the Energy and Mineral Resources Minister proposed an electricity subsidy of Rp117.84 trillion for 2027, up from Rp100.83 trillion in the 2026 State Budget (APBN). The government also proposed increasing the volume of subsidized diesel fuel from 18.64 million kiloliters to 19 million kiloliters, as well as subsidized kerosene from 0.53 million to 0.561 million kiloliters.
Beniyanto said the increase in the subsidized kerosene allocation reflects the government’s attention to the needs of communities in eastern Indonesia, including Papua, Maluku, and parts of Sulawesi. He said subsidy policies should take into account differences in infrastructure conditions, consumption patterns, and the economic capacity of communities in each region.
According to Beniyanto, the effectiveness of subsidy distribution depends heavily on the quality of population data. Therefore, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources needs to strengthen the synchronization of data based on National Identification Numbers (NIK) with the Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration (Dukcapil), the government’s socioeconomic data, as well as customer and transaction data managed by state-owned electricity and energy companies PLN and Pertamina. The data should be updated regularly so that changes in residential addresses, family composition, and people’s economic conditions can be recorded promptly.
“A large budget will not be effective if recipient data is inaccurate. We must not allow people who are entitled to subsidies to be left out, while those who can afford it continue to benefit from them. Data integration must be accompanied by correction mechanisms, personal data protection, and easily accessible public complaint channels,” he stressed.
He emphasized that Commission XII supports President Prabowo’s policies and Minister Bahlil’s efforts to maintain affordable energy while strengthening national self-reliance.
“Commission XII will oversee the implementation to ensure that the 2027 energy subsidies do not suffer from leakage, are properly targeted, and truly deliver energy justice for all Indonesians,” Beniyanto concluded.
