The Strategic Minerals and Commodities Exchange (Bursa Mineral dan Komoditas Strategis/BMKS), also known as Icomex, is set to begin operations on January 4, 2027. The operational license for Icomex is targeted to be issued on January 1, 2027.
Sarjito, Chief Executive of BMKS Supervision and a member of the Board of Commissioners of the Financial Services Authority (OJK), said preparations for the establishment of Icomex have reached several important stages.
“On January 4, 2027, trading of minerals and strategic commodities is expected to commence for the first time through the Icomex entity,” Sarjito said at a working meeting with House of Representatives Commission XI in Jakarta, as reported on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.
He explained that OJK is targeting the issuance of regulations governing the commodities exchange on September 17, 2026. BMKS is also expected to be formally established at that time.
Among the regulations to be enacted are OJK regulations governing the transfer of supervisory authority from the Commodity Futures Trading Supervisory Agency (Bappebti) and the operation of BMKS.
However, Sarjito has not yet disclosed the list of mining commodities that will be traded through Icomex. The list will later be determined by the government through a Presidential Regulation (Perpres).
Meanwhile, the draft OJK regulation (RPOJK) on the operation of BMKS contains at least 12 chapters covering various aspects of exchange operations.
The regulation covers general provisions, BMKS operations, exchange operators and infrastructure, trading participants, the stages of trading, and transaction procedures.
The RPOJK also covers risk management, protection of service users and market integrity, data-sharing coordination and system interoperability, product development and market innovation, regulation and supervision, as well as compliance enforcement and administrative sanctions.
