Septian Hario Seto, Executive Secretary of the National Economic Council (DEN), said the government is preparing several fiscal strategies to keep subsidized fuel prices stable through the end of the year while maintaining the sustainability of the country’s public finances.
He said the strategies were discussed during a meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and the National Economic Council at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.
“The government’s policy of maintaining subsidized fuel prices is an important measure to protect people’s purchasing power,” Seto said, as quoted on Wednesday, October 21, 2026.
However, he added that the policy of maintaining subsidized fuel prices needs to be balanced with well-calibrated fiscal strategies to ensure price stability without compromising the health of the country’s public finances.
“We also presented our study on fuel. We informed the President that the government’s decision to maintain subsidized fuel prices is appropriate, particularly in protecting people’s purchasing power at this time,” he said.
Seto stated that the National Economic Council also presented several fiscal strategies that the government could implement through the Ministry of Finance, with support from the Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Management Agency (BPI Danantara). These strategies are intended to ensure that subsidized fuel prices remain stable through the end of the year while keeping the financing of the policy fiscally sustainable.
“We also discussed several fiscal strategies that could be implemented by the government and the Ministry of Finance, with assistance from Danantara, to ensure that fuel prices can be maintained through the end of the year while keeping the fiscal position sustainable,” he added.
In addition to short-term strategies, Seto said the council discussed several long-term improvements, particularly measures to improve the targeting of energy subsidies. He explained that these improvements are necessary to ensure that subsidy allocations are used more effectively and provide benefits to those who need them most.
“We also discussed several long-term improvements that could be implemented to make energy subsidies better targeted,” he concluded.
