Coordinating Minister Bahlil Holds Coordination Meeting, Signals Which Ministries and Agencies May Fall Under His Sector

Coordinating Minister for Downstreaming and Energy Transition Bahlil Lahadalia said he had held a coordination meeting with Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, Investment Minister Rosan Roeslani, Head of the State-Owned Enterprises Regulatory Agency (BP BUMN) Dony Oskaria, and National Police Chief Suyudi Ario Seto. He added that representatives from Pertamina were also present.

“We discussed the newly established coordinating ministry. This was a routine coordination meeting aimed at promoting value-added creation, increasing non-tax state revenue (PNBP), and boosting our foreign exchange earnings amid uncertain global conditions,” Minister Bahlil told reporters at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) office in Jakarta on Friday, October 16, 2026.

He said he had requested support from the parties involved in strengthening energy security and advancing the energy transition.

He also offered a preview of the new ministry’s structure, saying that the State-Owned Enterprises Regulatory Agency (BP BUMN) and the Ministry of Investment would almost certainly come under the Coordinating Ministry for Downstreaming and Energy Transition. However, when asked whether the Ministry of Industry would also fall under the coordinating ministry he leads, he declined to confirm it.

“I think so, based on my feeling, perhaps,” he said.

Earlier reports stated that Bahlil Lahadalia now holds two positions in President Prabowo Subianto’s Red and White Cabinet: Coordinating Minister for Downstreaming and Energy Transition, while retaining his position as Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM).

The inauguration took place at the State Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, October 1, 2026. His appointment was formalized through Presidential Decree No. 104P of 2026.

Before the inauguration, Minister Bahlil had said that he had been assigned to hold both positions concurrently as Coordinating Minister for Downstreaming and Energy Transition and Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources.

“This is a mandate from the President for the nation and the state. I did receive a call from the Cabinet Secretary, Teddy Indra Wijaya, informing me that I would serve concurrently as Coordinating Minister and Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources. We will carry out all the duties assigned by the President,” Bahlil said shortly before entering the State Palace on Thursday, October 1, 2026.

With this appointment, Minister Bahlil is responsible for coordinating policies related to downstreaming and the energy transition while also leading the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources as the technical ministry responsible for the sector.
